120-year-old luxury bath restored to original glory
The renovation of Budapest's Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal is now complete with the recent opening of the 1,000-square meter Royal Spa, located on the underground level of an adjacent building. First opened in 1888 as an independent enterprise, the bath was acquired by the hotel in 1920. During WWII, the facility went out of use and practically sank into oblivion in the subsequent decades. Now the bath has not only been restored to its rich late 19th century splendor, but modern amenities have also been added to create a recreational facility that truly deserves the "luxury" label. The spa complex boasts a wellness center and beauty salon in addition to a 15-meter glass-roofed pool, 2 jacuzzis, 2 saunas, 12 massage rooms, gym, steam bath, tropical rain shower and relaxation areas. Open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., the Royal Spa offers free entry to the guests of the Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal, while other visitors can choose from a wide range of ticket options from one-day passes to 12-month membership cards.
