Time-honored Budapest hotel gets facelift
Astoria welcomes guests with new decor, amenities
Built 92 years ago, Budapest's Astoria Hotel has recently seen the completion of a facelift to its historic parts, started more than two years ago. As part of the project, the hotel facade has been cleaned, the roofs, doors and windows replaced and soundproofed to block out noise from the street, and the rooms and corridors completely refurbished. The hotel's 94 rooms have been redecorated in warm, light colors, with new carpets, furniture and lighting installed. The bathrooms have also been renovated, and fitted with bidets where space allowed. At the same time, each room has been equipped with climate control, as well as amenities including a room safe, minibar, phone, wireless Internet and pay TV. Renovation of the hotel's elegant cafe/restaurant has also begun. After the upgrades, Mirror Café Restaurant will open to the public in late August.
